Weaning . . . . For some people this word fills them with dread, for others, excitement!
For me first time round, it was the fear of the unknown, I constantly worried, ‘am I doing this right?’. ‘Should he be eating this?’, ‘What if he chokes?’
Second time round I was a lot more relaxed, my worries were more about the mess!!!
See exhibit A!
And exhibit B!!
With both boys we started out with a combination of purées and finger foods. But within a few months the majority of their meals were the same as ours.

I’m all about making life as simple as possible, so when it comes to meals i like to cook just one meal for everyone, and just adapt it slightly so it is baby friendly. If it can be prepared in advance even better!
( In the early days when the boys were getting used to textures I would either blend the meal we had, or give them a purée and some of the veg as ginger food)
Some of our family favourite’s:
- Homemade Shepard’s pie ( with hidden veggies )
- Homemade Lasagne ( with hidden veggies)
- Homemade Soup with crusty bread and cheese
- Lemon chicken
- Toad in the hole (although I’ve had a bad run with Yorkshire puddings they keep coming out a bit soggy !)
- Roast Dinner
- Stir fry
- Homemade pizza ( This is just fun to make Samuel loves putting the toppings on, he isn’t as keen on making the dough, he doesn’t like sticky hands!!)
- Veggie Tart with new potatoes and salad
- Homemade (deconstructed) Chicken pie
How to deal with the mess!!!
Bibetta has a solution for this! They sent us a placemat and bib to test, and they did not disappoint.
The design and colours are really lovely. Samuel was very excited when I showed him Elijah’s new bib.
The bib is a great size and has a great pouch for catching the inevitable crumbs. Elijah likes to use this pouch to save food for later and every now and then delve in!

These placemats aren’t just for babies!
The best thing about this placemat is brilliant when your out and about, it folds up nice and small to fit in your changing bag and it means you don’t have to ‘fashion’ a mat out of numerous napkins that just get thrown on the floor!
I’ll leave you with a a few more weaning photos.
Here you go brother I’ll help you!Eating is tiring!!
